MAY IS ASIAN / PACIFIC AMERICAN HERITAGE MONTH
May is Asian Heritage month, and celebrating Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month can be a meaningful and enriching experience. Here are some activities we have planned for May:

MOVIE ‘FINDING OHANA’
FRIDAY MAY 3 AT 10 AM
Ohana means Family in Hawaiian. Join us to kick off the celebration of Asian Heritage Month by watching the movie ‘Finding Ohana.’
This film combines elements of comedy, drama, and adventure as the siblings reconnect and learn about Hawaiian culture and island life.
The duration of the movie is 2 hours and 3 minutes and is narrated in English with Chinese subtitles.
Refreshments will be served.

EXPERIENCE SPRING AT THE GARDEN
FRIDAY MAY 10 AT 9:30 AM
Come join us on a trip to the New England Botanic Garden at Tower Hill in West Bolyston to explore their springtime spaces and blooms.
The bus leaves at 9:30 from the Senior Center.
Admission is $20 for adults, $17 for Senior (65+), and $2 for those on ConncectorCare, and veterans receive a 25% discount.
You may bring your homemade lunch or buy lunch at the FARMER and FORK Cafe at Tower Hill.

MAHJONG & TRADITIONAL ASIAN BOARD GAMES
FRIDAY MAY 17 AT 10 AM
Come join us to experience several traditional Asian board games that have gained popularity both in their home countries and internationally.
Some well-known ones includes Go(Wei Qi), Xiangqi(Chinese Chess), and Marble Chinese Checkers.

CALLIGRAPHY WORKSHOP
FRIDAY MAY 24 AT 10 AM
Ink wash painting is a type of Chinese ink brush painting that utilizes washes of black ink, similar to those used in East Asian calligraphy, in various concentrations.
In this workshop, we will explore how to paint bamboo and dragon using the ink wash painting technique.
Refreshments will be served.

MOVIE ‘THE FAREWELL’
FRIDAY MAY 31 AT 10 AM
Join us to wrap up Asian Heritage Month with a movie featuring ‘The Farewell.’
This film talks about how hard it is to balance being Chinese and American and feeling left out. It follows a family who come together for a pretend wedding in Changchun to say goodbye to their grandma, who doesn’t know that she’s sick with cancer.
The duration of the movie is 1 hour and 40 minutes, narrated in both Chinese (with English subtitles) and English.
Refreshments will be served.
