IT'S DAY TRIP TIME
SOUTHWICK'S ZOO
WEDNESDAY JULY 19 Bus leaving from Senior Center at 9:30 a.m.
You can bring your own lunch or visit the café or concession stands at the park.
Trip includes the train ride through the Deer Forest. Cost is $20.00 (cash)

MAINE CLAMBAKE TRIP

THURSDAY AUGUST 24 Bus leaves from the Senior Center at 9:00 a.m.
First stop, Stonewall Kitchen then on to Foster’s Downeast Calm Bake. Choice of Lobster or Chicken with chowda, potatoes, corn on the cob, onions, steamers and mussels, rolls and butter and blueberry cake.
Next stop, York Village (weather permitting) and finally, When Pigs Fly Bakery.
Home between 5:00 and 6:00 p.m. Cost is $55.00
WRIGHT'S FARM
THURSDAY AUGUST 31 Bus leaves from the Senior Center at 4:00 p.m.
Enjoy family style chicken, salad, pasta and French fries. Ice Cream for dessert. Then treat yourself to some fudge from the gift shop! Cost is $25.00.
Tickets for all of these trips will go on sale on Wednesday, July 5. Preference to Westborough residents first. No refunds after the food has been ordered.

WHAT'S NEW?
TUESDAY NIGHT OUT!!
Join us on Tuesday nights beginning July 11 through August 29, for music, good food and fun! For $30.00 and a box of cereal, you can come and enjoy yourself, take a break and visit with friends. All reservations must be made by noon on the preceding Friday. There are no exceptions, please. Transportation is available!
JULY 11 – Kick off the summer with our favorite rock ‘n roll band!
The Flashback Band will be here to play all your favorite tunes to dance or sing along to.
We’ll be making ice cream sundaes at the break.
Cost $2.00 Starting at 5:00 p.m.
JULY 18 – You saw him on Chronicle now see him in person!
Kevin Driscoll will be here with his “friends” as the ventriloquist chats away with his fluffy companions.
Roast beef or turkey sandwiches, chips and pickles and dessert are on the menu.
Cost is $4.00 Starting at 5:00 p.m.
JULY 25 – It’s Christmas in July!!!
Come celebrate with us! Holiday songs with Dennis Fenton, a big tree, and lots of fun! Baked, stuffed chicken, mashed potatoes, veggie, and a special dessert.
Be sure to wear your holiday hat…prizes will be awarded!!
Cost is $7.00 Starting at 5:00 p.m.
AUGUST 1 – It’s beach and barbershop!
Wear your favorite Hawaiian shirt and enjoy a beach dinner of chicken kabobs, veggie rice and fresh fruit while you enjoy the songs of Trade Secret, the barbershop group from Naragansett, RI.
Cost is $6.00 Starting at 5:00 p.m.

August 8 – Take a bite of pizza and sing along with Steve McGovern to some of the best and most favorite songs of yesterday and today.
There’ll be salad and dessert, too.
Cost is $4.00 Starting at 5:00 p.m.
August 15 – Take a walk around Westborough in 1890 with Phil Kittredge and his restored pictures and slides.
It’s breakfast for dinner night some come and have pancakes and sausage-and bring a box of cereal to help fill the shelves at the Food Pantry.
Free with the cereal Starting at 5:00 p.m.
August 22 – Annual cookout with the Westborough Fire Department.
Always lots of fun!

August 29 – Dancing with Four Squares is back!
Dinner is Texas hash, cornbread and dessert. Wear comfortable shoes!
Cost is $4.00 Starts at 5:00 p.m.
CLOSING AT 1:00 PM ON FRIDAYS
Beginning July 14, through September 1, the Senior Center will close at 1:00 p.m. on Fridays.
There will be no Mini-bus transportation or Volunteer transportation.
Meals on Wheels and the Congregate Lunch will still be served. Please make your plans accordingly! Thanks!

RUMMIKUB MOVES TO THURSDAY
THURSDAY AFTERNOONS AT 12:30 PM
Because we are closing at 1:00 p.m. on Fridays, the Rummikub game is moving to Thursday afternoons at 12:30 p.m.
If you haven’t tried it, Rummikub is a great game to keep your brain moving and engaged.
If you don’t know how to play, the group is happy to teach you. There is no charge and transportation is available.

VETERAN’S AGENT OFFICE HOURS
MONDAY 7/10 & 8/7 FROM 2:00 PM TO 4:00 PM
Westborough’s new Veteran’s Agent, Jeff Farrell, will hold office hours at the Senior Center on Monday, July 10 and Monday, August 7, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
If you have an issue you need to discuss with him or if you just want to come in and say “hi” and introduce yourself, he will be available to listen and help. Transportation is available.
WE NEED A LOGO!
The Westborough Senior Center is looking for an original logo to use on our flyers and other promotional items. The contest is open to any Westborough resident, but especially our Seniors. Winner will be chosen in August and announced in the September Senior Scene. The WSCS is providing a $100. prize for the winner!
Rules for entry are:
1) All artwork must be original, not computer generated.
2) Color is good!
3) The Westborough Senior Center name must be incorporated into the design.
4) When duplicated onto small spaces, it should still be easy to read.
5) Submissions should be made to the Westborough Senior Center, 4 Rogers Road or by email to ademanche@ town.westborough.ma.us
6) All entries should be at the Senior Center by Monday, August 14. Be sure to include your name, address and phone number.
7) Artwork of the winner will become the property of the Westborough Senior Center/Council on Aging with credit given to the artist when appropriate.

A REMINDER…..
The Summer is here and we have turned on the air conditioning in the building. We have both active and passive groups here every day and try to keep the building comfortable for the exercise folks and the ones who play cards. If the air bothers you, please remember to bring a sweater when you come in. And if you have a problem, please let the office know sooner rather than later.

GRAB "N" GO LUNCH
WEDNESDAY 7/5 & 7/19 AND 8/9 & 8/23 AT 11:00 PM
Grab ‘n Go or Stay will be on two Wednesdays during July and August. Cost for lunch is $4.00. Lunch includes a sandwich, pickle, bag of chips, bottle of water and a cookie.
Lunches can be picked up beginning at 11:00 a.m. You are welcome to stay and dine here and if the weather is warm enough, we’ll even bring the picnic table outside for you to enjoy the sunshine! Or if it is too hot, stay inside and enjoy the air conditioning. Reservations are due by noon on Tuesday.

We will continue to serve lunch on Friday at noon throughout the summer. When we went to print, the summer menu was not available. Please stop in or call and we’ll be able to tell you what is on the menu.
All reservations must be made by 10:00 a.m. on Thursday. Transportation is available.

ASIAN OUTREACH PROGRAM – JULY & AUGUST 2023
OPEN TO ALL SENIORS
The summer Asian Outreach Program will primarily be indoors at the Senior Center on Fridays from 10 am to 12 pm during the months of July and August. The Asian outings for July and August will be combined with the general Senior Center outings planned for this period. Our indoor activities are listed as follows:
FRIDAY 7/7 at 10:00 am - Movie “The 36th Chamber of Shaolin”
Join us to start the summer off with a movie about the martial arts training at the famed Shaolin Temple. The movie duration is 115 minutes, narrated in Chinese with English subtitles. Refreshments will be served. Sign up must be made by noon Thursday 7/6.

FRIDAY 8/18 at 10:00 am - Movie “Return to the 36th Chamber of Shaolin”
“Return to the 36th Chamber of Shaolin” is a sequel to “The 36th Chamber of Shaolin” where the Shaolin style of martial arts is used to fight against injustices. The movie is 99 minutes long, and is narrated in Chinese with English subtitles. Refreshments will be served. Sign up must be made by noon Thursday 8/17.
FRIDAY 7/21 at 10:00 am - Chinese Calligraphy I
After some light exercises, we will watch a short video to learn basic Chinese calligraphy to be followed by hands-on practice with a brush. Refreshments will be served. Sign up must be made by noon Wednesday 7/19.
FRIDAY 8/4 at 10:00 am - Chinese Calligraphy II
After some light exercises, we will watch a short video to learn simple Chinese brush techniques of drawing flowers and bamboos on lanterns. Refreshments will be served. Sign up must be made by noon Wednesday 8/2.
